Ok, before delve into the finer points of this post I want to put a little warning out there to all the blokes reading this. We are going to be talking some serious girly stuff, so if that’s not your cup of tea, then may I suggest you sign off now. There could be moments of TMI, and if you know me “in real life” then there could be information that come the next New moon, you wished you didn’t know… So with that said, if you choose to read on, please don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Now my dear lady friends, this is a post for you. It’s time for you to become a little more acquainted with your cycle. It’s time for you stop seeing it as a burden, and time to start reconnecting with this very sacred, very feminine part of your journey. And if this post can help you to do that, then I have achieved what I set out to do.
For the past couple of years I have been intrigued by the moon cycles and how this in turn affects our own cycles. Now, after some first hand experience, I decided to do a little more investigating. And I have to say, I was fascinated by what I found. It goes so much deeper than I had originally thought. Despite the possible embarrassment of sharing some rather personal details with you I figured it would be quite remiss of me not to share.
Now I’m about to pull the curtain back on my own experience, but I think it’s important to paint a clear picture. So apologies in advance for any ‘Too Much Information’ moments, but there is so much to be learned from what so many women refer to as ‘the curse‘, ‘the enemy‘ or ‘code red‘, rather than seeing it for the gift that it truly can be.
For many years I never paid any attention to my cycle. I barely new when my period was due, let alone when I was ovulating. My cycle was all over the place with no regularity what so ever. Then a couple of years ago I noticed I was always getting it around the 1st of the month. This made things easy. I could keep track because in my mind because I always new when it was coming. No ‘unexpected visitors’, if you know what I mean. Life was good.
Then about 18 months ago I had 3 consecutive months of no period at all. (After freaking out I was pregnant and going through the trauma of that one!), I decided to just let things be and see what happened. On the fourth month of amenorrhea (something I had never experienced before), I noticed that it came on the Full moon, which I thought was pretty cool. This was the beginning of a new phase for me. Now after reading this brilliant article on how the different moon phases relate to what’s happening in your life, I’m really bummed that I can’t remember exactly what was going
on at the time. But this became the norm for me up until a few months ago. Every month I was ovulating on the New moon and menstruating on the Full moon.
When this first started happening I remember reading an article saying that it was ideal to be the opposite way around. This didn’t really make any sense to me, to me the full moon was all about ‘releasing’ and the New moon is about ‘manifestation’.but other than that I never really gave it much more thought. That was, until things started to change… again. A couple of months ago my ‘little friend’ started visiting later than usual. It started out as a week later, and that lasted for a couple of months…. Then all of a sudden it turned into 2 weeks later… and whaddya know – that’s the new moon!
So I thought it was time to dig a little deeper and find out what this synchronising with moon stuff is all about. That’s when I came across the article on ‘Moonsong’ and it all started to make more sense. I’m not going to go into all the details here because the article is fabulous and has so much info on this topic and I highly recommend you head over and have a read. But, I just wanted to share my own experience in the hope that it might bring about your own awareness.
One thing I found out though through Jane’s article, and it makes complete sense for me in my life right now is that our cycles can change depending on phases we are going through in our life. For instance, when we menstruate on the new moon (or dark moon) it is representative of a time in our life’s that is all about “turning inwards, self nourishment and can also be a time for anxieties, memories and experiences to rise up, eager to be dealt with. It is a strong time for healing”.
I am certainly experiencing all of that in my life right now, and I am absolutely certain, that moving forward I will be a lot more aware of what is playing out in my life and how my cycle is affecting that. It’s something that I would really recommend you do to. When we are in touch with not only our own cycles but also that of the moon, and the collective feminine consciousness we can capitalise on these energies, and use them for our greatest good. It truly is a magical feeling to be in such beautiful alignment with the Universe.
How about you, Do you keep track of your cycle? Have you noticed how the moon cycles affect your own? Feel free to share in the comments below!
