Since I have been sharing my news about changing my degree, I have had a lot of people ask me ‘What is Mind-Body Medicine?’
So I thought I would write a quick post, and give you a little insight into exactly what this modality is, and how it can help you.
So, What is Mind-Body Medicine?
Mind-Body Medicine explores the role and relationship that the mind, emotions and spirit have upon your health and wellbeing, and how – when they are out of balance – they can cause dis-ease and illness in the body. It is really important to understand, just how much of an impact our minds have on our body. Things such as negative beliefs, conflicting desires and goals, resentment, stress, fears and anger all promote dis-ease in the body. Through the different processes involved in Mind-Body Medicine we aim to use the mind to create a state of health and wellbeing.
At the root of every dis-ease and illness, there is an energetic cause. For anyone who has read Louise Hay’s ‘You Can Heal Your Life‘ would understand, that our thoughts are directly related to where an ailment presents itself in the body. Thoughts are things. Via our thoughts, we are either creating a state of wellness and healing in our body or we are creating a state of dis-ease and dis-harmony. By recognising and capitalising on the bodies innate healing potential, we are all able to return our bodies to a state of health.
There are many different techniques used in Mind-Body Medicine – things such as relaxation and meditation are among the most commonly used. Then there is Yoga, Hypnosis, Flower Essence Therapy, Reiki, Tai Chi, NLP, as well as many other vibrational and energetic techniques and of course things such as nutrition and other physical aspects are also taken into account and appropriate diet and exercise are also prescribed.
In Bruce Lipton’s Book ‘The Biology Of Belief‘ he proves without a shadow of a doubt, that we are not victims of bad genes. Our genes (of which we have over 30 000) can all express themselves in over 300 different ways – and in fact, it’s not the gene’s that are the problem… but the environment.
That’s right. Our genes are totally dependent on the environment of the body. What’s is going on with our hormones, toxicity in the body, our emotional state all of these things play a HUGE part in our health and wellbeing and it is at this level that a dis-ease begins to form.
So,
this is the practice of Mind-Body Medicine in a nutshell. There is so much more I could go into, but right now I am going to leave it at that. But I want you to ask yourself the following question, and feel free to share your answer in the comments below…
Are my current thoughts and belief systems contributing to a state of health and Wellness or a state of dis-ease? What am I willing to do to bing more awareness into my life, to clean out all those limiting beliefs?
(Hint: We ALL have messy thoughts and belief systems that need clearing out… the trick is having the awareness to figure out which ones!)
